KARACHI: Refuting media reports about the proposed constitution, a reliable source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) claims to have drafted a ‘democratic’ structure to run the board’s affairs transparently in the future. “There will be no post such as Managing Director in the upcoming set-up. In fact, all department representatives, elected regional presidents, on the Board of Governors (BoG), will elect the chairman freely”, said the source privy to the development, while talking to this correspondent for News One TV.
“The BoG will have ten representatives from regions and departments for two years by rotation”, the source added
In May last year, the former PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf, held an election to get elected for four years. The exercise was widely criticised as dubious because two members of the BoG were included in the four-member nomination committee for the Chairman’s election.
On the mandate of various positions in the cricket board, the source said that the Chairman, BoG and COO etc would have the same powers as in the earlier constitution, however the chairman could be removed democratically by the vote of no-confidence in the BoG.
On a question the source expressed the confidence that the International Cricket Council would in fact be more satisfied “with the constitution which is more democratic then ever”
